Caesar became dictator around 48 to 44 BCE. After the victory at Pharsalus, Caesar sends his trusted lieutenant Mark Anthony back to Rome. Antony arranges for the senate to declare Caesar a dictator, with no changed terms. "When Caesar returned back to Rome his colonial policy was generous with citizenship allowing individuals and communities to rejuvenate both the Roman legions and the Roman governing class." Even though Caesar made some changes to the government to help the people, some of the Romans still fear him since it seemed like Caesar was trying to be king and yet the Romans still held an old hatred to its ancient kings. Later on Pompey and Caesar grew apart after an act of an event and they, but the thing was they both wanted to rule Rome. "Caesar started to manage armies and troops which they were suppose to attack Pompey, yet Pompey had the same idea to attack Caesar, but little did he know that his own army was no match for Caesar's."
